New #Phoenix #Marvel #AvengersAlliance photo! By Patrick Calilung! Costume made by me! This is so cool!
Didn’t post Sue spam on #instagram yet hahaha! I was happy with how it fit and how easy it was to move in it! But OMG if you do anything strenuous, you just pour buckets of sweat in it. Definitely a fall/winter convention costume…. #marvel #fantastic4 #sdcc
Made last min tweaks to #Phoenix (#Marvel #AvengersAlliance #Phoenix5Team) bodysuit (why are all my sleeves too baggy?!) and decided to throw on the armor for a pic. I made the armor out of Worbla, and added the bird-themed designs because I wanted more texture! I’m not wearing the gloves, sash or boots. Shoulder pieces are attached via elastic bands so I still have full range of motion, and the pieces fit on without any elaborate systems. For good measure I added two small pieces of velcro but everything fits just by sliding it on. This will be the only time I magically made armor easy to attach… just you wait…
Oh, you can see the side designs on the bodysuit! The leatherette is slightly different for contrast and I drew out the lines based on a pattern I made, then top-stitched them onto a separate piece with moleskin backing, then sewed the pieces onto the bodysuit.
Bodysuits really are very easy to make, as spandex is amazingly forgiving. I always recommend for people to make a bodysuit from scratch instead of buying a suit then altering it. It often takes longer and is more of a pain in the ass to alter a suit than to make one based on your measurements. KwikSew makes great bodysuit patterns! When you need custom/design seams on a bodysuit, make one then draw on it, cut it up with seam allowance, then use the pieces as a pattern. Super easy! Make sure to use a zig zag stitch for stretch!
I’ll see you guys on Saturday in this new costume at #SDCC!!

This is a brand new Psylocke costume! I cosplayed Psylocke back in ‘06 but wanted to make a new version, more grounded in Reality. I drafted my own patterns for the bodysuit, arms/legs, boot covers etc, and sewed everything in a day utilizing two contrasting fabrics, heavy duty spandex & stretch pleather. The only piece I re-used from the old Psylocke costume is the sash.
My wig is sponsored by EpicCosplay!! It is incredibly thick, heat resistant, smooth and soft. You can see more of Epic Cosplay’s wig line at http://epiccosplay.com/!
